Iver Larsen became the first Danish member-in-training of Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1974. From 1973 to 1975, he received training and beginning in August 1974, he was Wycliffe’s official representative in Denmark. He organized the visits of other Wycliffe representatives to Denmark and spoke about Wycliffe’s work all over the country. As a result of the publicity work and over time, a group of Danes interested in working with Wycliffe was formed. Some of these received the organization’s magazine from the United States. In 1975 Iver married Alice, who had become a member of Wycliffe the same year. The two of them continued the publicity work in Denmark, and in January 1977, they left the country to serve as Bible translators, sent from the Apostolic Church in Vejle.

Wycliffe Denmark was established with bylaws and a board in the years 1976-77. When the Larsens left for Africa, a person from the group of interested persons took over the role as Wycliffe’s representative in Denmark, including the accounts and the administration of donations.

The direct reason for the establishment of Wycliffe Denmark was a wish to have a sending country and a support group for the first two Danish Wycliffe members. It wasn’t until 1992-93 that Wycliffe Denmark defined its visions and strategies based on an analysis of the situation in Denmark, the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, etc. Over the years, many people have been involved in the work in Denmark (the board, the director, support and working groups) as well as in Europe (several people have been trained in England; Gitte Jakobsen – former chairperson and director – has been a member of the Europe Area Committee) and internationally (linguistics and film work in the United States, personnel sent to Africa).

Danes who have had a wish to serve have primarily been trained in England. Several people have been trained but for various reasons they are not (yet) serving. One couple returned to Europe after a few years in West Africa. One person has studied one year at EQUIP Training in Australia as part of her studies in linguistics at a Danish university.

Alice and Iver Larsen are working in Kenya (Mount Elgon), and were in 1997 involved in the publication of the New Testament in Sabaot. A translation of the entire Old Testament is forthcoming, and Iver has been a language and translation consultant in East Africa since the early '90s. Bodil and Peter Lanting are through Danish Evangelical Mission (DEM) serving in Ethiopia, where they have been based in Awasa since 1998. Bodil coordinates the translation of the Old Testament into Sidaminja, while Peter is the coordinator of the literacy work done among adult Sidamas. The Apostolic Church has for many years been Wycliffe Denmark’s partner through its support to the Larsens. DEM is not a church but a mission agency with contacts in many different churches; DEM and Wycliffe have been partners since the Lantings left for Ethiopia in 1996.

In Denmark, Wycliffe Denmark works together with Operation Mobilization (the two organizations share an office) and with the Project Advice and Training Centre – Platform for Danish NGOs (non-government organizations), about institutional fundraising. Wycliffe Denmark is a member of the Danish Mission Council and of ISOBRO, an association of humanitarian fundraising organizations. In addition, the publishing house Forlaget Scandinavia has used Iver Larsen as a language consultant on a new translation from the original texts of the Bible into every-day Danish. This translation was published in November 2007.

Iver Larsen fut en 1974 le premier membre danois en formation avec Wycliffe Bible Translators (traducteurs de la Bible Wycliffe). I 1974 blev Iver Larsen som den første dansker Member in Training af Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT). Han var i årene 1973-75 på bibelskole og fungerede fra august 1974 som Wycliffes officielle repræsentant i Danmark. Han arrangerede udenlandske Wycliffefolks besøg i Danmark og informerede om Wycliffe rundt omkring i landet. Det sidste medførte, at der efterhånden blev opbygget en gruppe af Wycliffe-interesserede danskere, hvoraf nogle modtog organisationens blade fra USA. I 1975 blev Iver gift med Alice, som samme år var blevet WBT-medlem. Én person har som et led i sin danske lingvistuddannelse fulgt et års kurser på Equip Training i Australien.

Alice og Iver Larsen arbejder i Kenya, på Mt Elgon, og var i 1997 involveret i udgivelsen af Det Ny Testamente på sabaot. DEM er ikke en menighed men et missionsselskab med kontakter ind i mange menigheder; DEM og Wycliffe har været samarbejdspartnere siden udsendelsen af Bodil og Peter Lanting i 1996.

I Danmark samarbejder Wycliffe: Sprog – Kultur – Bibel desuden med Operation Mission (de to organisationer deler kontor) og med Projektrådgivningen (om institutionel fundraising). Wycliffe Sprog – Kultur – Bibel er medlem af Dansk Missionsråd og af ISOBRO, en brancheorganisation for humanitære indsamlingsorganisationer. Dertil kommer, at Forlaget Scandinavia har brugt Iver Larsen som sprogkonsulent på en nyoversættelse fra grundteksten af bibelen til hverdagsdansk. Denne udkom i november 2007.
