Coronavirus Prayer Update 1 May 2020
Perspective is everything. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 tells us: For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. (NLT)
We may not feel that our troubles in this season are small, and many of us don’t see a quick end to this pandemic and its impact on our lives. Paul, however, encourages us to not look at the troubles but to fix our eyes on God. The situation we are in is temporary regardless of how we feel. The things of God will last forever and therefore have more value than anything in this world. So we fix our eyes on God and allow him to produce in us fruit that outweighs the troubles and that will last forever.
Pray for wisdom and provision: Nigeria
Leaders of The Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) closed their centre on 23 March in compliance with the government’s directive to close down organisations. Join the staff in prayer:
- Because of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, a workshop scheduled to take place in April for about 13 language projects and another in May have been postponed. Ask God to show the leaders of NBTT the best time and way to conduct the training.
- Pray that God will show the leaders of NBTT how best to continue with the activities and work of the organisation.
- To help cash flow, half salaries were paid in March. Pray for God’s provision so that the remaining salaries for March and full salaries for April can be paid on time.
New personnel joining: Europe Alliance Organisations
New personnel are joining several of the European Alliance organisations this month. Pray for the individuals as they get to know the Bible Translation movement. Pray for the organisations as they process these new staff members into the various areas of service. Ask God for wisdom to know how best to train and engage with the individuals during the present isolation period from COVID-19. Pray for creative solutions along with patience and understanding for all involved.
Adjustment of staff members: Taiwan
For the past two years, staff members serving in Wycliffe Taiwan have faced challenges — first with political difficulties and now with the COVID-19 pandemic. These resulted in staff members returning from their countries of assignment back to Taiwan or to their home countries. Pray for God’s grace and mercy as they adjust to these changes. Ask God for wisdom and perseverance as they adapt to new ways of serving in Bible translation from their new locations.
Programme cancellations and changes: Japan
As the COVID-19 situation was monitored with guidance from both national and local government authorities, Wycliffe Japan cancelled several events: a vision trip to the Philippines, the Executive Director’s field visits, prayer meetings, the Wycliffe Cafe. Ask God for grace and wisdom as the participants of these programmes seek to continue serving the Lord through virtual platforms. Pray for God’s direction and guidance as decisions are made whether to postpone or cancel the following programmes: Junior Day Camp in May, Literacy and EthnoArts Seminar in August and Cross-Cultural Mission Seminar in September.
