Settled in a community of their own, the Naskapi people of Quebec deepen their spiritual roots with help from the translated Scriptures.
The linguistic roots of the Naskapi language are widespread. Naskapi speakers are part of a language family stretching across much of the North American continent.
Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Joe Guanish was chief of the Naskapis and a key advocate for Bible translation among his people. After a dream one night several years ago, Guanish composed a prayer for his people and wrote it down using the Naskapi script.
After a rough start, a Wycliffe Canada couple persevered to help a remote First Nations community receive God’s Word in their language.
