Teaching women and children to read
Hawa Djibrine, a 25-year-old mother of three, quit school in 2000 after receiving her BEPC (4 years of secondary school). She lives in the rural village of Baldjé which is in the Dadjo zone of the Guera region in Central Chad. In January 2008, the Dadjo Language Association (ADPLD) opened an adult literacy center in her village. Hawa came forward to be trained as a literacy teacher, and for the past three years she’s taught more than 35 women in her village to read and write in Dadjo, their mother tongue. She loves her work teaching women, but now she is turning her attention to the children of her village. She wants to use her skills to help prepare these children for success in primary school.
Hawa says, “I want to teach little children so that they will know how to read, write, and count, so that they will be happy to go to primary school.”
Hawa has a 5-year-old daughter who is registered in the preschool literacy class being held in Baldjé. She wants her daughter to have a good foundation of learning and for her daughter to learn the fundamentals in the language that she knows the best – Dadjo.

Apprendre aux femmes et aux enfants à écrire
Hawa Djibrine, une femme de 25 ans, mère de trois enfants, a quitté l’école en 2000 après l’obtention de son BEPC (4 ans d’études secondaires). Elle vit à Baldjé, un village de la zone de Dadjo, dans la région de Guera, au centre du Tchad. En janvier 2008, l’ADPLD, l’Association de Développement de la Langue Dadjo, a ouvert un centre d’alphabétisation pour adultes dans son village. Hawa y est venue se former comme enseignante d’alphabétisation, et au cours des trois dernières années, elle a appris à plus de 35 femmes de son village à lire et à écrire le Dadjo, leur langue maternelle. Elle aime son travail d’enseignement des femmes mais elle s’intéresse aussi aux enfants de son village. Elle veut mettre son talent à profit en préparant ses enfants au succès à l’école primaire.
« Je veux apprendre les petits enfants à lire, à écrire et à compter, de sorte qu’ils soient content de fréquenter l’école primaire », déclare Hawa.
Hawa a une fille de 5 ans qui est inscrite en classe d’alphabétisation préscolaire à Baldjé. Elle veut que sa fille ait une bonne fondation éducative et aussi qu’elle apprenne les fondamentaux en la langue qu’elle connait le mieux – le Dadjo.
