Preserving the Amara language: Papua New Guinea

Originally the Amara people lived in the mountains, but the government relocated them to the coast and scattered them among non-Amara villages. There are now three Amara villages, but only one village still actively speaks the Amara language. Some of the Amara people are part of the translation program among the neighboring Bariai people. Several men in the the area want to learn how to translate the Bible into the Amara language. There is a deep desire to preserve the Amara language to maintain a link to their heritage and culture. Pray for wisdom as they consider how to do this.
