Learning How to Translate the Bible: Guatemala
Guatemala [2011-09-27] —
In August, the translators who belong to the Mayan Educative and Cultural Association* attended a two-week workshop together with two indigenous translators from Colombia, a national Colombian translator and a translator from the United States. The workshop was very intense, and excellent presentations were given. Emphasis was given to the importance of familiarity with the biblical culture and also the culture of the people for whom the Bible is being translated. They also focused on the background information needed for a clear translation. How much material is required? When and how should it be included? Pray for God´s Spirit to guide these translators as they continue to learn and do translation.
