  • Polycentrism in the missio Dei by Dr. Kirk Franklin, Dr. Nelus Niemandt
As Christianity moved farther away from the Christendom model of centralised control to other models of structure and leadership, other paradigms have been proposed along the way. However, one possibility, called the concept of polycentrism, has not been considered with any significant effort.
  • Community in Action
    Missiological Consultation on Funding
  • Missiological Reflections on Funding by Minyoung Jung
Mission agencies and many other nonprofit organizations have felt the impact of the global financial crisis. This situation calls us to seriously revisit and reevaluate existing funding systems. Our total dependence on God in everything, including funds, is probably the most prominent concept in Scripture.
  • Principles for Funding (with Scripture references)
During 2013 and 2014, the Wycliffe Global Alliance initiated a global conversation on funding for Bible translation movements in the context of the missio Dei (mission of God). Among the purposes of the consultations was that of articulating a vision to guide funding practices in the context of God’s mission based on principles that are missiologically sound, contextually relevant, sustainable and globally respectful.

  • The Wycliffe Global Alliance in Community
Community is the basis for the existence of the Alliance. We are not a community only because of our common goals. We are community because we joyfully share a common life in Christ.

Today, as the centre of gravity of the Christian world moves ever southward, the conservative traditions prevailing in the global South matter ever more.

Wycliffe Global Alliance and Missiology

Wycliffe Global Alliance’s interest in missiology is key to our participation in the missio Dei (the mission of God). Missiology’s contribution to the Bible translation movement is to analyse its practises, intentions, attitudes, message and methods. This is in keeping with Samuel Escobar’s definition of missiology: “An interdisciplinary approach to understand missionary action [looking] at missionary facts from the perspectives of the biblical sciences, theology, history and the social sciences*.”

We recognise that Bible translation is only one facet of the overarching mission of God. Our desire is that all peoples have access to and can understand and apply God’s Word so God may be glorified in every language of the world.

The gathering of resources for Bible translation and compassionate service takes place in a rapidly changing social, cultural, economic, political and religious environment in each nation and at the global level. Recognising these factors, we seek God’s guidance and direction for discernment and wisdom. We also encourage our colleagues and co-workers in missiological reflection and action. Together under God’s direction we can participate in ministering to a changing world.
